Things that are Coming Soon

Quick run down of things you need to remember are coming:
  1. Helen Hayes Award next Monday. Will Gabi and Shirley walk away with the Hayes? Will Tim Getman remember to wear pants to the after party? Who is the Scarlet Pimpernel?
  2. The Black & White Masquerade Benefit Ball is Saturday, May 10th at 8pm. Get your tickets now for an evening of Will you be there to enjoy the open bar, which now includes Beer, Wine and a sassy fruity Vodka drink? Will Tim remember to wear his pants? Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?
  3. Myth Appropriations '08: Creation Myths, Saturday May 24th, at 6, 8 and 10pm. Last time the event sold out so we have moved to a bigger venue. Will some one please give Tim a pair of pants? Oh and what evil lurks in the hearts of men?

Tickets are available to both of the Rorschach events and I will have full coverage of the Helen Hayes awards again this year next Tuesday. And by full report I mean a review of the buffet.

What The Hell Are You Doing?

Annonymous Writes:

What are the Rorschach Company members doing on their time off right now?

Well Anonymous, if that is your real name, we really don't have any time off because we are quite busy preparing for our Exile at Georgetown this summer, but I sent out an email to the Company to see what other things folks are up to and these are the answers I have been able to gather.

From Tracy Lynn Olivera:

Hi! I just started rehearsals for THE HAPPY TIME at Signature, which opens in April as part of the Kander and Ebb festival and runs until the end of may. I miss you guys.

From Tim Getman:

hey bud...doing the miller reps at arena, playing happy in salesman and mike in view from the bridge. then doing in the heart of america at repstage. hope yer well

From Deb Sivigny:

I am opening Chasing George Washington at the Kennedy Center tomorrow night. Then I am working on Crumble with Catalyst Theater and HH nominated Shirley Serotsky. Then Neglect with Journeymen Theater, directed by RT alum Jessie Gallogly some other small things, like YPT's tour and the Source Festival too, but those are the major things...deb

And Cesar Guadamuz, Maggie Glauber, Patrick Bussink (who I just found a profile which I haven't run yet, sorry Foo) and Scott McCormick will be appearing in The Last Days of Judas Iscariot for Forum Theatre and Dance, we started rehearsals in last week and it will open in early April.

1/2 Way to 1000

From time to time I like to share some of the arty pictures I take in the world with you my Marianne Faithful readers. It's a tower in Gettysberg by the way.

This is our 500th Entry here on the Rorschach Blog and as in the past I will list off some of my favorite entries of the past 100 or so, but first some house keeping.

We are ahead in the DC Theatre Scene's Peoples Choice Awards in both Best Play and Best Actress, but there are still 2 weeks to go before the polls close and we seem to have bottomed out at 22 or 23 votes. We need more. So figure out the best way to get more votes people, without cheating that is! VOTE HERE!

Tim Getman was interviewed by our friend Jane Horowitz forabout his past in Woolly Mammoth's upcoming production of The Unmentionables. Read what Tim has to say about missionaries and his parents from last Wednesday's BackStage Column in the Post. Scroll down to the part of the article where is says Culture Clash for the interview.

6 Best of the last 100 Entries

See you again when we get to 600!

Get to Know Tim Getman

Tim Getman is pretty damn good at what he does. He is a man who has spilled a lot of sweat and blood for Rorschach over the years. He has built and designed sets, and he has acted his ass off. He has been on long extended journey and has always come home to us, for which I am grateful.

As a matter of fact it was on one of Tim's journeys that birds came to Rorschach. I for one am very excited to see him return to our stage. Having previously appeared in JB, Master and Margarita, and Behold! and having designed the incredible set for last season's Arabian Night.

So with out further ado, Timmy G!

1. What is your job in producing birds?

artistic partner and playing james, a high powered stock broker turned neurotic boyfriend

2. When you were a child what if any stories or fairy tales effected you the most?

the bearskinner by the brothers grimm, about a soldier who makes a deal with the devil and beats him, oh and spiderman, the xmen, and batman. love heroes that have a dark underbelly

3. Is this the first time you have worked for Rorschach? If no, when have you done for us before? If yes, why did you decide to come and play in our sandbox?

my fifth collaboration with this crazy company

4. What is one impossible thing that happens in birds?

i have to shave for every performance, and i get to "do it" with two beautiful women in an hour and a half (Editor: and by "do it" he means have sex with)

5. What is you favorite bird?

hummingbirds are pretty amazing, a feat of nature..they're the smallest i think. penguins are pretty righteous, i swam with them once. and ostriches have the most amazing eggs

6. How do you think or hope audiences will react to birds?

um....it's a lot of information and pretty dense poetic writing. i hope they take it like a beautiful, abstract painting. and maybe start to believe in the magic of everyday life again

7. If you had a theme song what would it be?

oh gosh, that's hard. marissa stole the best one. roxanne. from the man's perspective. phil collins i can feel it coming in the air tonight. james i think has really bad musical taste, but starts to finally hear the meaning in things.....maybe?

get back to me on that one.

Speak the Speeches

There are always speeches before First Reads. Producers give you a packet of documents that you will probably never look at again and explain how the place runs. These speeches are standard operating procedure for nearly any professional theater company in the world.
You get a speech from the marketing director, who you probably won't see again until he comes with the photographer to take press pics. You hear from the designers and the director about their concepts of what this show is about and how they are going to be bringing it to 3 dimensional life. If the playwright has come you might get to hear what made her write the piece in the first place (Thanks for joining us last night Jennifer).
I will be honest, last night I slipped out the door before most of the speeches happened. Don't judge me! I don't like to ruin the surprise I get when I watch a designer run. I know there are many people who enjoy the discovery of a first read and Rorschach has had some doozies over the years. It is one of the few pleasures I get when I am not working as an actor on a show, the wonder of a designer run.
This is a great cast of people who are familiar to DC audiences even if they are not Rorschach regulars. Artitic Partner and Company Member Tim Getman joins us for his 4th Rorschach show (one more and you get the smoking jacket Tim). We are lucky to be joined by two great actors who I was very nearly in a show with a couple of months back, Brian Hemmingsen and Nanna Ingvarsson. Marissa Molnar and Jjana Valentiner round out the cast with all of their youth and energy, I envy them that.
Welcome to you all and I will give everyone a run down of the designers in the coming days.
birds starts previews on June 27th so start making your plans to see it today!
