Dream Sailors Premieres and Reviews Keep Coming in for Skin

Episode 1: Jacob's Fence of Dream Sailors, opens tonight and continues through Sunday. I think that you all know how excited we all are to be producing Randy's new show. This fantastic cast has worked their hind-quarters off to bring this special World Premiere to life and they will continue to work their asses off for the next 5 weeks. Don't let them down and get your own ass over to see this special show.

Debbie Minter Jackson, is the second to chime on The Skin of Our Teeth on DC Theatre Scene. While not fully impressed with the show, Ms. Minter Jackson does have some kudos for the cast:

McCormick portrays the father figure with a self-assurance and swagger. Whether he’s right, wrong, just, unfair, sporting Spitzer-like arrogance, or humble-pie humility, McCormick carries it all and is exciting to watch.

Wyckham Avery as his Edith Bunker-like wife seems to acquiesce, twisting and turning to his every whim, but shows glimmers of reinforced steely strength when you least expect it-one can only pity the fool who dares to mess with her family. Cesar A. Guadamuz plays Henry, whose original and official name is apparently Cain, replete with plenty of underlying hints about his tendency to throw rocks at people in uncontrolled rage, so you know where this is going.

Simone Zvi plays the dutiful though precocious daughter Gladys, and Jjana Valentiner rounds out the cast in the pivotal role of Sabina, with a bright-eyed appeal.

birds Trailer and Opening Night Report

birds opened on Saturday night and I think there were a lot of folks who liked it. They really really liked it. This show has been a huge undertaking for everyone involved.

This photo on your right should give you an idea of the scale of this here set. And that is just the set when it is at rest. Someone from the audience on Saturday said it reminded them of an Advent Calendar, you sat there looking for the doors and set pieces that would pop out of nowhere and reveal a new secret.

We were glad to see everyone, press and friends alike. And now the show belongs to the audiences, like a I promised. Thank you to the cast and crew for working so hard to make this happen and we look forward to a successful run.

I will be putting links to the press material as it appears, so check back in at least once or twice this week.

Congraulations to everyone, you should be proud.

Opening Night: References ...

It was cold and it was rainy outside. Inside we were enjoying the warmth of the California Desert, just outside of Barstow. Fantastic Opening Night if I do say so myself and I do. Plenty of family and friends around to show their support for this wild monster of a play.

It is such a family affair at Rorschach when a show opens. And I don't just mean that our parents show up, I mean everyone who comes is a family member of Rorschach. Lots of theaters have their contributors at these events and Rorschach is no exception. But at Rorschach our Board and our contributors are just as likely to be lifting a hammer, making runs to the Home Depot or setting up the post show snacks as any company member or designer.

Thank you to everyone who makes these things happen. Thank you for the help you give in marketing a show or just sweeping up.

Remember References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot continue this weekend and until May 13th.

Tonight Rorschach joins with the rest of the DC theater world in celebrating the Helen Hayes Awards. We wish the best of luck to Grady, Michael John, Jason and Scott as they either are the recipients of the Helen Hayes or a lot of well wishers slapping their back afterwards telling them that they were robbed.

We also wish the best to all of the Rorschach Alum who are up for the HH tonight. You are all winners in our book.

And finally to the folks who are just going because of the open bar. Please have a great time and don't do anything you will regret when theaterboy gets done doing his evening recap.

Post Haste

"When a vengeful fictional character steps out of the pages of Shakespeare and into modern Manhattan threatening death and destruction, who in the world can save the day? A dramaturg." - Nelson Pressley in The Washington Post

Sort of has a "who you gonna call?" vibe to it. We haven't had this quick a turn around on a review in the Post like ever. And what a good review. Here is the link to read all of the goodness about Rough Magic. But please pick up the print edition so you can see Grady's head in all of its four color glory in the Style Section.

The show opened wonderfully on Saturday night. Lots of people kept coming up to me at the after party and saying what a blast they had. And I think that without a doubt this show is a blast. Balls out battles between good and evil, a sexy, sexy cast, and amazing design all add up to an evening of Rorschach. I think most of you know what I mean when I say Rorschach, the rest of you will just have to come out and find out for yourselves.

More of these reviews will be coming in, but it is nice to get the one that everyone reads under our belts and know that we got some love out there for us already.

The show is back this Thursday night at 8pm. And just a reminder to you love birds out there, who are in need of a date for your sweetie, we have a Valentine's Day show. What could be more romantic on a V-Day than a night out with your honey at the theater? And with what you save on the tickets, you can spend it on dinner or dessert toppings.

Just as a note of warning, we have already had to turn folks away at the door for this show. Our last PWYC Preview, was sold out and we had to turn away about 20 people. As many of you know from Master and Margarita and The Beard of Avon, when a Rorschach show sells out in previews, you won't be able to stroll-up and see if we have any seats left, so book your tickets now.
